marlene mountain
other-line haiku sequence
january 27-28 1980

mountain

from work each evening
i return to the mountain
: opening with breasts

alone in a midnight cave
alive in a hillside yawn

you enter my dream
plunge yourself long and deeply
through the wet dark moon

sing an echo of music:
a poem on my inner walls

in middle darkness
i wash you in cave odor
rub earth in your soul

as i stretch again to touch
you and the dream disappear

alone in dawn haze
i rise to meld soul and soil
with night dream moisture

the mountain pushes me out
leaves scatter at the entrance
