fishing

Early Morning . . .
   digging worms
      with the chickens.

My can full of worms--
   the chickens
      continue scratching.

Waiting
   for the fishing dock
      to come from the mist.

Staring into the water
   hands crammed deep
      in my pockets.

Blowing on my hands,
   casting,
      blowing again.

Reflection
   on the quiet pond:
      Cold Beer.

Cross-legged.
   Between my dirty fingers:
      white sandwich.

Above
   the clouds in water:
      clouds.

Late afternoon--
   finding last year's pecans
      in the leaves.

Returning home,
   fence
      coming to meet me.
